John Terry made his debut at Chelsea in a league cup match against Aston Villa in the 99/2000 season. At the end of the 2000 season, Terry went out on loan to Nottingham Forest, starring for the side on six occasions. He emerged from the Chelsea rankings during the 2000/01 season; he won the ‘Chelsea Player of the year award.’ His real breakthrough in English football came during the 2001/02 season; he played for Chelsea on 49 occasions. He scored crucial goals during the season especially in the quarter finals and semi-final matches to help Chelsea progress to the FA Cup final. In the 2002-03 season, Terry emerged as Chelsea’s star player and a rock in the heart of their defence. In the 2003-04 season, his highly committed and inspiring displays earned him the Chelsea captain’s armband replacing Marcel Desailly. He secured his fist team slot in the Side, despite many new highly talented players signing for Chelsea. After a dazzling performance during Euro 2004, Chelsea’s new manager Jose Mourinho was eager to keep John terry as captain, and his brilliant performances during the 2004/05 campaign earned him the honour of ‘PFA Player of the Year.’ He captained Chelsea to the title of the English premiership and victory in the league cup final. His great display for both club and country earned him a selection in the World eleven at the FIFPro awards. Terry is regarded as an inspiring leader on and off the football pitch. Terry repeated his amazing performances for Chelsea during the 2005/06 season for Chelsea. The 2005/06 season witnessed much the same for Terry, a successful premiership campaign winning the premiership for a second successive season; he also made his 250th appearance for his club.
